Deutsche BKK operates two large data centers. The IT infrastructure consists of a multitude of components and services that have grown into a complex, heterogeneous IT environment over the years. The health insurer deploys three different operating systems: Windows, Linux and Novell Netware. Some of these systems are virtualized by means of VMware. Among the services and technologies being used are: Active Directory, eDirectory, Novell Identity Management, Exchange, as well as several database systems and web services.
In order to monitor the infrastructure, Deutsche BKK makes use of HP OpenView Node Manager. However, in the course of time, HP OpenView turned out to be too large scale for Deutsche BKK‘s needs. In addition, the system proved too cumbersome and inflexible. Deutsche BKK therefore began to look for alternatives.
