Digital transformation, internet of things, smart cities. Though the scope of these topics is different there is one thing that unites them: they all require an integrated data stock. Stefan Celati from Italian Pentaho partner knows this very well and will present a monitoring solution for data flows at Pentaho Community Meeting.

Stefano, who are you?
I graduated in Computer Science and have been dealing with business intelligence for almost 20 years (at that time we were barely talking about plotting and prints). I had the chance to work on projects for some of the main companies in Italy and had also some experiences abroad. I’m passionate about data warehousing techniques and in recent years I’ve focused on new fields like big data analytics and new technologies like Hadoop and graph databases.

What connects you to Pentaho?
Coming from traditional/commercial BI Tools, I started to work with Pentaho in 2008 when I joined BNova. Because of my natural predisposition to data modeling, obviously the tool I use most of my time is Pentaho Data Integration (PDI). But I’m also a decent Mondrian cube designer which attracts me with the power of its engine and the underlying MDX language.

What will your talk be about?
I will talk about a solution we originally built for monitoring PDI flows but that has the potential to be a complete monitoring tool for everything that falls into a concept of „data flow“ process.

Bnova is an important Pentaho partner – can you say something about Pentaho use in Italy?
We were probably one of the first consulting firms in Italy that adopted Pentaho for running our core business that today can be located in the (big) data intelligence field. We saw an impressive explosion of the adoption of Pentaho also thanks to the training sessions we hold in our territory: this increasing embracement leads to a really interesting phenomenon around the Pentaho community which counts more and more people every day.

All this diffusion has let many enterprise companies approach Pentaho by integrating with or replacing traditional tools to which they were historically linked. This is certainly one of Pentaho’s strengths, being an easy tool to be used and integrated with company solutions even when others are already in place.

At the moment, our most important project is with an insurance company. We have developed a reporting and analysis solution for them that is totally based on Pentaho features. Thanks to it the agencies in the territory (over 7,500 users) are able to extract and export their customer base insights in a self-service manner.

Pentaho Community Meeting takes place from November 23-25 in Bologna, Italy. Join 270 data enthusiasts and register here!
